Who's Behind Living-Room-Concerts.ca?

In November of 2006, my good friends Leland and Patti in Collingwood, Ontario, invited my wife and I to a live evening concert at the home of Liz Scott and Rich Fletcher on Irish Mountain near Meaford.  Curious, and always eager to be in on live music, we accepted their invitation.

After a short drive along the snowy country road up Irish Mountain, we arrived at Liz and Rich's lovely mountain-top home.  We were greeted warmly at the door by Liz, shown where to hang our coats and ushered into the dining room where the table was quickly filling up with baked goodies and other finger foods that the guests had contributed.

We mingled, munched and chatted with the other guests for a while, then, promptly at 8:00 pm, our hosts directed us to the simple but spacious room over their two-car garage where the concert was about to begin.  The forty or so folding chairs were quickly filled by the capacity crowd attending that evening's concert.

For the next two delicious hours we were treated to the wonderful melodies, poignant lyrics and captivating yarns of singer-songwriter-guitarists Rick Fines and Suzie Vinnick. Outstanding musicians in their own right, Rick and Suzie together made one dynamic duo!

After the concert, we re-adjourned to the dining room for more munchies, beverages and a chance to meet and talk to the performers.  At the "merch" table, copies of Rick's and Suzie's CDs were on sale and, of course, I bought one of each and had them personally autographed.

That was my first "house concert" experience and I was hooked.  I realized then and there that this wonderful, intimate venue for live music was the perfect way for me to express my longtime desire to be a patron of the performing arts.  House concerts are a win-win-win proposition for the performers, the audience and the host.
